Rasp Mine

SA, Mine site, quarry or landfill - Digital terrain, surface or elevation model

In collaboration with stakeholders, EMM Drone Services deployed a DJI Mavic 3T, equipped with thermal and RGB sensors to carry out a visual inspection of the interiors of inaccessible and unsafe buildings, providing live data and information to the project team. This enabled them to safely carry out on-site assessments, as well as document asset condition, quality, and identify areas for prioritisation and detailed inspections. EMM Drone Services also carried out an aerial survey of the project site, capturing high-definition imagery, enabling the creation of baseline datasets such as aerial orthomosaics, Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and 3D models of site assets against which any future site activity can be compared and measured. Such data also provides a wealth of interpretive and public outreach opportunities to a site that is relatively inaccessible today. The Rasp Mine project demonstrates how drone technology can be utilized for a variety of heritage use-cases including accurate data capture, risk mitigation, preservation-prioritisation, and 3D modelling and analysis.
