The DJI Phantom 4 RTK is a drone designed for aerial mapping and surveying missions. It is a compact, reliable, and cost-effective drone that has been trusted by professionals for years. The drone is equipped with a Real Time Kinetics (RTK) unit that makes aerial surveys 1000 times more accurate, achieving 0.1′ vertical accuracy. The RTK unit uses a technology called real-time kinetics to track where a photograph was taken in real-time, referencing the photograph’s location to a local base station that has been calibrated by a land surveyor. The drone can also use Post Processing Kinetics (PPK), which is useful for software such as Propeller. The Phantom 4 RTK can fly a great distance and, in some cases, beyond visual line of sight.

It is a popular drone designed for surveying and mapping applications, providing high-precision GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) capabilities.

Main features:

  • RTK Positioning: The Phantom 4 RTK features Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS technology, which provides centimeter-level accuracy for precise mapping and surveying.
  • High-Resolution Camera: Equipped with a high-resolution 20-megapixel camera capable of capturing 4K video at 60fps. The camera has a mechanical shutter for accurate mapping and inspection.
  • TimeSync: DJI's TimeSync system aligns the flight controller, camera, and RTK module, optimizing the camera's position data for accurate geotagging of images.
  • Centimeter-Level Positioning: With the RTK module, the drone can achieve centimeter-level accuracy in its positioning, making it ideal for applications requiring high precision, such as mapping and surveying.
  • Flight Autonomy System: The Phantom 4 RTK is equipped with multiple vision sensors for obstacle sensing and avoidance, enhancing the safety and stability of the drone during flight.
  • Flight Modes: Offers various intelligent flight modes, including Waypoints, Point of Interest (POI), and Follow Me, enabling automated and precise flight paths for mapping and surveying missions.
  • Mobile SDK Support: Supports DJI's Mobile SDK, allowing developers to create custom applications and features tailored to specific industry needs.
  • OcuSync Transmission System: Utilizes DJI's OcuSync 2.0 technology for stable and reliable long-range HD video transmission, ensuring a clear live view and data feed to the operator.
  • D-RTK 2 Mobile Station Compatibility: The Phantom 4 RTK is compatible with the D-RTK 2 Mobile Station, which further enhances the drone's positioning accuracy and reliability.
  • Remote Controller: Comes with a dedicated, ergonomic remote controller with a built-in screen, providing real-time flight data and live video feed for efficient operation.

3 Requirements to dry-hire

(1) A security deposit

About 80% of the retail value of the equipment new. Can be paid via regular bank transfer or as a hold/freeze for the on your credit card for the deposit amount.

(2) Public Liability (PL) Insurance

Required in case of third party property damage or injury. You will need a Certificate of Currency showing Drones for Hire listed as an 'interested party' (since DFH is the owner of the equipment).

Note that 'hull' insurance (covers costs associated with repairs / replacement of  the drone itself), is  not mandatory since we take a security deposit. You may choose to have your own hull insurance so you are covered in case there is a crash / theft and DFH needs to retain some of the security deposit for repairs (parts and labour) or replacement.

(3) A Drone licence

You / the drone pilot, will need a CASA drone Licence (RePL) and to be listed as a pilot under a CASA Operators Certificate (ReOC). Note the insurance companies usually require an RePL and ReOC so you will likely have these already if you have PL insurance (point 2 above).
