R2F Powerline Transmission Network Inspections

Ready to Fly (R2F) recently had the privilege of contributing to an innovative UAS/RPA project that played a critical role in ensuring the ongoing safety of over 5000 transmission line structures for one of our key customers, Enerven. The project was completed in preparation for the bushfire season to promote the stability of South Australian transmission network provider, ElectraNet. Traditionally, the client would conduct a combination of ground-based and helicopter inspections. However, they recognized the value of using new technology to provide improved outcomes for all stakeholders. This is where our expertise and advanced drone technology came in. Our team at R2F was equipped with the most powerful integrated UAS zoom cameras on the market, allowing inspectors to perform close range inspections as if they were within arm's length of the assets. Inspectors were able to look for physical damage to the asset, such as deterioration and wear of components, foreign objects, and rust or corrosion to metal components. All inspections were completed without the need for climbing a structure, the use of mobile plant, helicopters, or damage to crops and private assets. Our team maintained a safe distance from the high voltage assets at all times, ensuring the utmost safety of everyone involved. The use of advanced drone technology combined with the most powerful integrated UAS zoom camera on the market provided an undisputed improvement in safety and quality outcomes when compared to inspections utilizing traditional manned aircraft. This not only provided an extremely competitive asset inspection solution but also eliminated the risk of fatal accidents associated with helicopter inspections.
