Over the past two months, I’ve been working with Omexom on a bushfire mitigation program. Using the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone, I carried out inspections of powerlines in Gisborne and Mickleham. Each day, I piloted the drone to capture high-resolution images and data, which were crucial in spotting potential fire hazards and ensuring the powerlines were in good shape. Together with an asset inspector, we analyzed the data to identify any issues that could pose risks. This teamwork was essential in refining our processes and ensuring the accuracy and usefulness of our findings.
This role has given me a deeper appreciation for how important infrastructure maintenance is in preventing bushfires. The insights from these drone inspections have been vital in helping protect our communities. The experience has also sharpened my skills in drone piloting, data analysis, and problem-solving, highlighting the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding against fire threats.

DJI T100 Clear for Takeoff
CASA has approved the T100 for operation in Australia under the Medium category, just like the T50 and other spray drones. The liquid tank holds up to 100 L and the spreader handles 100 kg. There are no built-in take-off limits or system restrictions in the drone or software. You’ll only see a brief notice on the remote screen if you exceed the MTOW, which disappears automatically. To stay within CASA’s operating guidelines, keep total load to 75 L or kg.
