Very exciting, the Mavic 3 is finally here. It's basically a hybrid all-rounder and high-end cinematography drone in one. Very nice sensor in the camera, exceptional flight time, and transmission range. If you want the BMW of photography drones, this aircraft will serve you well, and for a good few years since its brand new (Oct 2021), and has the latest tech specs. But, you can still get very nice shots with the Air 2s if your budget is smaller and you are quite happy with a Toyota! Side note: people looking to do mapping/photogrammetry note that DJI has not released the SDK yet so apps like DroneDeploy won't work just yet.
Key features:
As expected, the Mavic 3 has two cameras, on top of which DJI has etched Hasselblad branding.
The Mavic 3 relies on a 20 MP primary camera with a 4/3-inch CMOS sensor. The camera also has an f/2.8 aperture and an 84° field of view (FoV). Supposedly, the drone can capture images at up to 5,280 x 3,956 pixels, or in 5.1K at 50 FPS. Additionally, WinFuture states that the Mavic 3 can shoot 4K videos at up to 120 FPS or 1080p ones at 200 FPS. Incidentally, the drone has a peak 200 Mbps bitrate, while the 'Cine' edition supports Apple's ProRes 422 HQ format.
Meanwhile, the device's second camera is a 12 MP sensor with a 15° FoV and an f/4.4 aperture that can shoot in up to 4K at 30 FPS. This secondary camera does not support ProRes 422 HQ, though. Hence, it is unclear if the drone can seamlessly switch between its cameras when recording videos.
Moreover, the Mavic 3 has a 5,000 mAh battery that should provide up to a 30 km range and 46 minutes of flight time. The drone itself can scale to 6 km in altitude too and is controller by DJI's new RC Pro controller, a successor to the company's Smart Controller.
The Mavic 3 will be available in three variants: a standard model, a Fly More Combo and a Cine Edition. Like with previous models, the Fly More Combo includes spare batteries for longer flight times between charges. By contrast, the Cine Edition contains 1 TB of built-in storage; the standard and Fly More Combo versions only have 8 GB of storage and a microSD card reader.
Hasselblad L2D-20c Camera
The Legacy Continues
Iconic Swedish camera brand Hasselblad has customized the L2D-20c aerial camera for DJI Mavic 3, embedding a professional-grade 4/3 CMOS in a sleek and compact form. Rigorous Hasselblad standards are applied to both hardware performance and software algorithms, bringing imaging quality to an entirely new level.
Note: DJI Mavic 3 Cine supports Apple ProRes 422 HQ encoding and comes with a built-in 1TB SSD for high-speed data storage.
